Below are shown a few of the various safe-room designs. Each home has a unique location for the safe-room. These may be included as an option. Closets or bathrooms may double up as a safe-room or you may have a private concelaed room dedicated to that purpose.
One of the main design goals of Universal Designed "Smart" Homes for the 21st Centuryis human safety and sustainability. For this reason we have included safe-rooms into all of our plans.
During an emergency it may not be easy for people of all ages and abilities to find a place of refuge or evacuate to a place of safety. We believe a larger bathroom or closet can double up as a safe-room. The homes with lower levels have larger safe-rooms as well. Thus the idea of the Universal Designed Safe-room became another new and unique feature in our Universal Designed "Smart" Homes for the 21st Century home plans.
While in search of products to detail our safe-rooms we developed a professional relationship with F-5 Storm and Fallout Shelters. Our plans include details for Insulated concrete block safe-rooms. F-5's steel safe- rooms are a good option that do not require as much space due to the thickness of the walls. Schwab Architects can design, and F-5 can build any size safe-room per your requirements.
